Back in the winter of 1984 a young lad began the quest for his “Purpose” which he found in music. Heavily influenced by his brother’s
quick mastery of the complex art of Drumming, the search began but what instrument?
The following summer came the purchase of
his first Bass and the brothers started cutting their teeth with Maiden, RUSH, Yes and listening to Cats such as Billy Cobham, Stanley
Clarke, Stanley Jordan. Jeff and brother Chad became quite the duo! Also at this time Jeff began to experiment with his instrument
in the form of upgrades and modifications which led to a passion for Lutherie, The art of instrument design and building. For most
of their teen-age years and into their early twenties the Brothers Morgan played relentlessly and gained notoriety.
In the early
‘90s Jeff began playing in several local Rock bands, where a “Solo” spot was planned at every gig, which soon became a standard and
something that was expected by his peers and the bands following. Jeff also entered the studio side of the instrument and after “Ghosting”
on several projects Jeff was taken on as an apprentice engineer and assistant producer, within in a short time he was head engineering
and producing projects on his own. When outside the studio Jeff studied the approaches of the finest bassist in their respected genres
where he developed his own unique style and voice on the instrument.
In 1994 Jeff formed the Instrumental Trio “Destiny” with
his wife Juli on Guitar. Entering the “Seattle Scene” at this particular moment as an instrumental Band was both Bold and Stupid,
however their talents were recognized by their peers and a loyal fan base. Two plus years pass and with their persistence and the
release of a Full Length CD (Untitled) Destiny began to receive recognition. Now playing more upscale gigs and media coverage in the
form of Indoor / Outdoor Festivals, Opening for National Acts, (Joe Satriani, Robin Trower, DIO, B.O.C. Michael O’Neil, Randy Hansen
and many more!) National and International distribution, Radio and TV shows, Magazine features, endorsements, Destiny had much success
for a band so far from the norm.
In November 2001 Jeffs first child was born which propelled him to dive Deeper into the instrument,
from master classes with Stu Hamm, Michael Manring, Tre Gunn’ to personal studies, studio work and the design / construction
of his own personal Basses (the ultimate weapons) combined with hours of woodsheding and a trip to Victor Wooten’s Bass/Nature Camp
in 2003 (studying with Vic, Steve Bailey, Adam Nitti, Anthony Wellington and others) the experience and energy emitted from the camp
and life revitalized the Bassjedi. Now armed with “the skills”, “tools” and years of hard work a majority of his compositions were
Bass Solo Pieces and this is where Jeff finds his peace and balance. With the use of Non Standard Techniques, Harmonics, Altered Tunings,
the “Ebow”, Custom Capos (whatever it takes) and with the years of experience speaking thru the instrument, Jeff’s pieces range from
Lucid and Tranquil to Aggressive or just plain Funky his music runs a gamut of styles. In 2008 Jeff began to work with Uncontained
Sound as an Artist/Endorsee and showcased his talent at several gigs / trade shows including NAMM 2009-2010, The Seattle Sound of
Bass Day, the 2010 NAMM Bash Bash, and with the inclusion of four Destiny tunes on an Independent film release Jeffs career has gone
to the next level. Now performing on a regular basis as a soloist, clinician and with the bands; Humility Square, The Lazarus Effect
(featuring the return of his Brother from the badlands), The Michael Joshua Project and Discovery Worship, Jeff continues his musical
journey. Currently in the process of recording his first full length Solo effort which will consist of Bass Solo and ensemble pieces
the music will cover a wide range of genera’s and with a Winter 2010 release date slated the Bassjedis schedule is full and his quest
is ongoing.
